§ 2-1416. General violations bureau.

  • (a)

    Organization. There is hereby established a general violations bureau to assist the municipal court with the clerical work of cases as set forth in this section which are not within the purview of the traffic violations bureau. The general violations bureau shall be supervised by the clerk of the court and shall be open during the same hours as the traffic violations bureau.

    (b)

    Authority. The clerk of the court shall act as violations clerk for the general violations bureau and shall accept written appearance, waiver of trial, plea of guilty and payment of fines and costs for the following varieties of offense cases, subject to the limitations prescribed in this section:

    (1)

    For those offenses not punishable by imprisonment for which a specific amount of fine is provided by ordinance.

    (2)

    For those offenses not punishable by imprisonment but punishable by a fine set by judicial discretion within limits stated by ordinance if the court en banc shall by order, which may from time to time be amended, supplemented or repealed, designate by suitable schedules the amount of fines and penalties for first, second and subsequent offenses, provided such fines are within the limits declared by ordinance.

    (3)

    For those offenses punishable by imprisonment and fine for which the court en banc shall see fit to limit punishment to a suitable schedule of fines as set out in subsection (b)(2) of this section for first, second and subsequent offenses as the court en banc may by rule provide.
