§ 70-910. Tandem-axle load limit.

  • (a)

    The gross weight imposed on a bridge maintained by the city by the wheels of any tandem axle of a vehicle shall not exceed 32,000 pounds.

    (b)

    The gross weight imposed on a street or highway by the wheels of any tandem axle of a vehicle shall not exceed 34,000 pounds.

    (c)

    For the purposes of this article, a tandem axle shall be any two or more consecutive axles whose centers are more than 40 and not more than 96 inches apart, individually attached to or articulated from a common attachment to the vehicle, including a connecting mechanism designed to equalize the load between axles. A tandem-axle load shall be the total load transmitted to the road by all wheels whose centers are included between two parallel transverse vertical planes more than 40 inches and not more than 96 inches apart extending across the full width of the vehicle.
