§ 54-113. Holding period required for salvage vehicles purchased on a bill of sale.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any salvage yard permit holder, the designated agent or their employees to sell, trade, melt or crush, or in any way dispose of, alter or destroy a motor vehicle or junk vehicle purchased on a bill of sale pursuant to RSMo § 301.227.9, or parts thereof until 72 hours, exclusive of weekends and federally designated holidays, after the date of its purchase by such salvage yard permit holder.

    (b)

    Upon notice from any law enforcement agency or any of their agents or employees that have cause to believe an item has been stolen, a salvage yard permit holder shall hold any salvage motor vehicle, or parts thereof, for 30 days, exclusive of weekends and federally designated holidays.

    (c)

    All salvage vehicles, motor vehicles, junk vehicles and all salvage vehicle parts shall be available for inspection by law enforcement, city regulatory personnel and/or director during the required holding period.
