§ 54-65. Delivery of records to police; maintenance of records.

  • It shall be the duty of every precious metal and gem dealer to deliver to the chief of police of this city, or his designee at the city police patrol station located nearest the place of business of the dealer, the record of every precious metal or precious gem purchase, as set out in section 54-63, including all photographs contained in that record, and the statement of the seller as provided for in section 54-64, within 24 hours of the purchase. Such information shall be available for official use only. A copy of the record and statement of ownership shall be maintained by the dealer for one year and shall be open for inspection by the chief of police or the sheriffs of Jackson, Clay or Platte Counties, or their respective designees, at any time during business hours. A service fee of $1.00 per item may be assessed the seller of any precious metal or gem to offset the cost of making and maintaining the record of purchase and statement of ownership.
