§ 50-6. Block watch crime prevention organizations and signs.

  • (a)

    Installation of signs. Any provision of this Code to the contrary notwithstanding, block watch crime prevention signs may be installed, provided:

    (1)

    Such signs shall be no larger in size than 30 inches by 30 inches.

    (2)

    No more than two signs may be installed on any one typical block.

    (3)

    The cost of producing the signs and installing the signs shall be borne by the block or neighborhood block watch crime prevention organization requesting them.

    (4)

    The signs may be installed by the block or neighborhood block watch crime prevention organization following guidelines provided them by the department of public works; or the department of public works, upon request from the block or neighborhood block watch crime prevention organization, shall install such approved sign upon delivery of the sign by the organization.

    (b)

    Administration of program. Specific requirements for organization of a block or neighborhood block watch crime prevention organization for participation in this program by such organization shall be determined by the director of neighborhood and community services, who shall administer the program provided for in this section.

    (c)

    Existing signs. All block watch crime prevention signs that are installed prior to the effective date of the ordinance from which this section is derived are exempt from the provisions of this section.
