§ 2-824. Membership; qualifications of members; term.

  • (a)

    The silver haired city council shall consist of 12 members appointed by the Mayor. Two members shall be appointed who reside in each of the six council districts. Six members shall constitute a quorum.

    (b)

    Each member must be sixty years of age or older and a registered voter in the district from which he or she was appointed, must have been a resident of this city for a period of at least five years immediately preceding the date of appointment, and must not be delinquent in payment of applicable city and county taxes.

    (c)

    Each member shall be appointed for a four-year term, with each term to begin on May 1. A member may be appointed for the remaining term of any vacant position. The terms shall be staggered; one member from each council district shall be appointed to a term beginning May 1 of the year of the city council election, and the other member of each district shall be appointed to a term beginning May 1 of the year that is two years after the city council election.
