§ 2-1278. Participation in social security system.

Nothing in this division shall be construed to prevent the inauguration of the federal social security laws for firefighters, or to prevent the contribution by such firefighters to the Social Security Administration or fund established by the federal government, or to prevent the pensioning of firefighters by the federal government. If federal or state pensions or social security benefits are made available to firefighters covered by this division, then any benefits payable to any member or the dependents of such member under this division shall be reduced by the amount of such benefits, and any contribution required by a member under this division shall be reduced by the amount of such member's contribution under such social security or pension system.
